小学生の時に一年弱、日本で中学生やって、カナダ一年弱、
そして最近アメリカ来たけどコロナのせいで友達と話せない。
聞いて理解するのはまあまあできるかもだが、話そうとすると、石になる

 

 小学生の時に来ていれば、クラスメイトとプレイデートしまくりで友達なんてすぐできるんだけど、
中高と上がるにつれて単純に忙しくなるので新しい友達を作るには努力が要るようになるね
また、求められる英語力にしたって、アメリカの小学生に追い付くのとアメリカの高校生に追いつくのでは大違いだしね
特にこのコロナの時期に入学・転校が当たっちゃった人は本当に大変だと思う

 

 親の立場から見た意見を言うなら、学校以外でのサマーキャンプとかの活動が重要だった思う
特に自分の得意な種目のスポーツみたいに、言葉関係なく自分が一目置かれるような立場を作ると効果的だと思う

 

私の家族は父親の海外赴任に連れられ、現在東部の州に住んでいます。アメリカの高校に通うことができると思って楽しみにしていたのですが、こちらはすべてオンライン授業で友だちの一人もできないまま半年が経過してしまいました。弟も私も家に篭りきりでろくに運動もしていなかったので、かなり太ってしまいました。こんな生活はもう嫌です。日本に住む友だちの話によると、日本では普通に高校に通っているそうです。私たちが一刻も早く日本に帰って普通の高校生活を送ることができますように、ぜひ激励お願いします。

 

 自分の子供のクラスメートの様子を見ても、この状況でうまくやっている子とそうでない子の差が広がってきているのを感じる。
上手くやっている子は、ITを活用してクラスメートとの関わりを増やすとか、州の法令の範囲内で少人数の集まりを自ら企画するとか、一人で集中できるこの機会を利用して自分なりのプロジェクトに取り組むとか(こういうことをする経験はアメリカではとても評価される)を進めているよ。
そうでない方は、家で何もしないかゲームばっかりやってるらしい
この期間の過ごし方でついた差は、おそらく後で取り戻すのがかなり難しくなりそうなほど大きいものだと感じるよ。
