5月6日に観光客に無料接種をすることを発表したデブラシオ・ニューヨーク市長は、
市外から訪れる観光客にも新型コロナウイルスのワクチンを接種するのは、「観光振興策」の一環だと説明する。
ワクチンを打つことを目的にした観光客が増えていく「ワクチンツーリズム」を睨む。

アメリカでは、ニューヨーク市だけではなく、アラバマ、アリゾナ、カリフォルニア、テキサス州など少なくとも22州がワクチンを観光客が接種できる。
