アメリカの主要メディア・コングロマリットはストリーミング市場に相次ぎ参入し、「ストリーミング・ウォー」の様相を呈し始めている。ハリウッドの映画界やエンターテインメントのみならず、スポーツやニュース番組も巻き込む、メディア業界の一大トレンドだという。ネットフリックスの加入者は世界で2億人、Disney＋（ディズニープラス）も1年半で1億人を突破した。
このたび『ネットフリックス vs. ディズニー』（日本経済新聞出版）を執筆した大原通郎氏に最新事情を聞いた。

3月9日にウォルト・ディズニーが、同社のストリーミングサービスである、ディズニープラスの加入者を発表したのですが、全世界で1億人を突破しました。2019年11月に開始したので、1年半足らずの間に1億人に達したことになります。月額は7ドルなので、毎月7億ドルが入る計算です。

　一方、ネットフリックスは1月初めに世界の加入者が2億人を突破しました。ネットフリックスのストリーミング開始は07年、1億人到達は17年なので、10年かかっています。勢いからするとディズニーに軍配が上がります。

何といってもディズニーの強みはコンテンツです。例えば、『スター・ウォーズ』のルーカスフィルム、これもディズニーの傘下。『スター・ウォーズ』シリーズは3年から5年置きに新作が出て、そのたびに世界の注目を集めます。

　劇場公開と同時にストリーミングで配信すれば、みんな見たくなります。マーベルの『アベンジャーズ』シリーズや『ワンダヴィジョン』もキラーコンテンツです。さらにウォルト・ディズニーの『アナと雪の女王』とか、最近でも新しいアニメ作品が次々と出てきています。

　コロナで映画館を再開できない地域もあり、ストリーミングの先行配信を決めれば、加入者が増える要因になります。

ハリウッドは金がかかり過ぎて絶対にこけてはいけないからもう無難な作品しか作れないんだよな。面白い映画は破天荒な企画から生まれてくるのに。
さらにはポリコレと中国コビが追い討ちをかけて終了。

　

ワクチンも普及してるし劇場に人も戻るんじゃないかな

　

Netflixは値上げしたのがこの先どう転ぶか。
ディズニーは勢いはあるが新作の配信スケジュールによっては伸び悩むかも知れない。

　

ストリーミング加入者は流動的、だめならすぐに乗り換えるので各社油断出来ないでしょうね。

　

ディズニープラスも最初は見たけどすぐ見なくなったよ
マンダロリアンとかスピンオフ系もすぐマンネリ化して飽きた。
ネトフリやAmazonのがお得感あるかな。

　

先行したが、スタジオ作品を失い、慌てて自社制作をはじめたNetflix、買収に次ぐ買収でコンテンツを増やしたディズニー、圧倒的な作品数とクォリティのワーナー/HBO陣営のHBOmax、この3社の最終決戦となるのではないか。

アメリカに住んでても、ガンダムとか鬼滅とか日本のアニメが充実してるし、英語吹き替えと日本語の両方選べるのがウレシイにゃ！
