同社は身代金の支払いについて繰り返しコメントを避けてきた。

ホワイトハウスのサキ報道官は１２日、身代金の支払いについて触れ、「連邦捜査局（ＦＢＩ）の助言ではするべきではない」と述べていた。

当局者はハッカーの身元を割り出そうと捜査を進めている。ＣＩＳＡとＦＢＩが１２日夜に発表した警戒情報では、ダークサイドはランサムウェアのサービスとして利用され、ランサムウェアの開発者が「アフィリエイト」と呼ばれるランサムウェアを実行するサイバー犯罪者から収益の分配を受ける仕組みになっている。

今回のアフィリエイトはロシア人の可能性が高く、単独犯である可能性があるという。
