バイデン大統領はここ数カ月、顧問らと検討を進めていたが、当初の撤退期限を長く超えて米軍がアフガンにとどまり続けるべきではないと考えていることを示唆していた。

米軍の撤退にはリスクも伴う。バイデン大統領の前任者のオバマ元大統領とトランプ前大統領も撤退を試みたものの、最終的にはアフガンでの戦争から米国を引き離すことはできなかった。

軍幹部は米軍が引き続きアフガンに駐留することを提唱しており、不十分な状態での撤退はアフガン政府の崩壊につながる可能性があるとの見方を示している。米情報機関は、タリバーンが戦場で優位に立つ可能性が高いと警告している。

地政学的にも経済的にもアメリカがアフガンに拘る理由はかなり少ない。
撤退が実現したら、ある意味ロシアと中国が一番困るのでは。
